150 year celebration meeting of Gladsmuir Chapter No. 1385

On Thursday 27 th February 2025, Gladsmuir Chapter No.1385 celebrated it’s sesquicentennial at Halsey Hall, Cheshunt. Thirty-five Companions were in attendance to see E.Comp. Darren Jones preside over the regular installation meeting whereby E.Comps. Adam Reader and Paul Graham were installed as MEZ and H respectively and E.Comp. Martin Cargill inducted as J for the ensuing year.

A large delegation from the Province, headed by the Deputy Grand Supt. E.Comp. Robert Asser was in attendance to help the Chapter celebrate this milestone achievement. The Chapter was consecrated on 25 th February 1875 at the Red Lion Hotel in Chipping Barnet by 14 Founders plus the Consecrating Team, headed by E.Comp. Sir Frederick Halsey, 2nd Grand Principal and Grand Supt. in and over the Province of Hertfordshire. As part of this celebration meeting the 3rd Provincial Grand Principal, E.Comp. John Linley gave an entertaining and informative Oration of the Chapter’s origins, during which he stated that “ having reached this 150th landmark, this Chapter, has maintained a progressive outlook throughout the one hundred and fifty years of its existence. Its members have upheld the high standard set by it Founders, and in consequence they have been successful in producing those excellent assets of good work and fellowship.

They have come through times of change that would have been inconceivable in 1875; particularly enduring two world wars and epidemics.” Also, during the meeting, the Chapter announced a donation of £1000 had been made to the 2030 Provincial Festival Fund and that a booklet of the First 150 Years history was available to every Companion present.

From the standard of the work carried out during the meeting and the excellent atmosphere generated at the festive board I’m sure the Founders of the Chapter would be very satisfied with Gladsmuir Chapter No.1385 today.
